Candle Care Mistakes to Avoid: Burn Smarter, Not Harder
Ever lit a candle, only to find it tunnels, smokes, or doesn’t last long? You’re not alone.
Here are the most common candle mistakes — and how to avoid them for a longer, cleaner burn:
1. Not burning long enough the first time
Let the wax melt to the edges on the first burn (usually 2–3 hours). This prevents tunneling.
2. Skipping the wick trim
Always trim your wick to 1/4 inch before each use. This keeps the flame calm and smoke-free.
3. Burning too long
Don’t burn for more than 4 hours at a time. It overheats the wax and shortens the candle’s life.
4. Not storing it properly
Store candles away from heat and sunlight. Natural wax can shift in texture — it’s normal, but cool storage helps preserve quality.
With a little care, your soy or beeswax candle will glow beautifully to the very last drop.
